A house with a Renaissance-period core, standing at the foot of the castle hill in the former Jewish quarter in Mikulov, went through dozens of modifications and operations during its existence and yet it managed to maintain its medieval picturesque appearance. The last reconstruction was for a bed & breakfast accommodation. But, Štajnhaus wasn’t just a project, it was a process of gradual uncovering of layers, spaces and surprising associations, and of searching for a point in time you can go back to, and a point from which you need to take a new path. The house is preserved as an organic whole, where space and shapes blend just like the historic elements blend with the modern tailored details. Part of the house serves as private rooms for the owner. There are five rooms for rent, each one of them with a specific atmosphere. The wine cellar and the adjacent yard was also restored.

V polovině června byly zveřejněny výsledky architektonické soutěže „e4 – cihlový dům budoucnosti“, pořádané společností Wienerberger cihlářský průmysl, a. s., s cílem získat originální architektonická řešení cihlových rodinných domů s pálenou střešní krytinou v souladu s požadavky na výstavbu budov po roce 2020. Vítězný projekt architekta Bohumila Brůži bude vyhlašovatelem realizován jako vzorový dům konceptu e4.

Slovenská komora architektov na tlačovej konferencii, ktorá sa konala 6. júla, slávnostne oznámila nominované diela XVI. ročníka Ceny Slovenskej komory architektov za architektúru CE∙ZA∙AR 2017.

The problematic relations of today’s professional and general public to architecture of the previous regime has previously been articulated on several occasions. It is reflected in cases associated with secondary interventions, transformations, and demolitions of architecture of that time, in artistic interventions as well as the latest expert research. Perhaps the greatest share of attention is given to the issue of prefab panel housing estates but other examples and realizations including interiors are next in line. The young generation of publicly active authors, often unburdened by personal experience with the pre-revolutionary regime and soberly reflecting the social-political and cultural situation after the revolution, can view this period objectively and assess it critically. Architecture and art of the socialist era is slowly attracting attention of experts and ceases to be invisible and a priori rejected. In many cases, it even serves as a starting point or inspiration for contemporary production.
